Stop & Breathe
by Skylar Masten
My mom used to always tell me if I was feeling sad, scared, or angry, to write a gratitude list. Sometimes it would be two or three items. But more often than not, it would turn into a list of so many things that I would have to make myself stop writing.
There are moments of “life waiting” which can seem to take hours, months, or years; or moments that actually do take hours, months, or years. But while we wait for what WE think needs to happen; we forget to be grateful. While we are so selfishly caught up in the one “big” thing, we forget to be grateful for the progress of smaller things happening right before us and growing us in major ways.
What God does is He takes over those big ideas, moments, wants, desires and He not only hears them, but shows us the right and true way. Sometimes our wants and hopes are in line with His. I believe that is the Holy Spirit working. Making that direct line between God and us feel tangible and worthy. But sometimes, well a lot of times, our plan and God’s plan do not align; well at least in our minds. But if we truly and faithfully know that Gods idea for what our life needs to be is the best, then we can find gratitude in the waiting.
“It’s your breath in our lungs so we pour out our praise to you only”. –Great Are You Lord
We mustn’t forget who our creator is. He gave us our breath. How dare we forget that? It’s His breath, His life, His plan that we need to be obedient to. If we are living for God alone, then we are living the fullest moments of our lives. When we truly succumb to the idea that we are to be vessels of hope and love so we can bless others; then we are pouring out our gratitude and praise for Him only.
Stop and breathe his breath, in our fear, anger, and sadness and find the gratitude to God that He not only deserves, but expects. He will be there in the waiting, we just have to find Him and thank Him for the goodness already received.
Questions to Ponder
- Name a time you believe God made you wait
- What did you learn?
- What spiritual gifts do you have?
- How have you seen God use them?
